The Sentinel has just published a press release in which it calls on the government to ensure the regularity of the measures announced by ARECOMS relating to the obtaining, distribution of quotas and exports of cobalt, and to take regulatory measures in accordance with the mining code.
The Sentinel believes that revising the provisions of the Mining Code and its regulation by means of a press release or administrative decision by a public institution could constitute an abuse of prerogatives and a flagrant violation of the provisions of the Mining Code and Regulations. It calls on the Prime Minister and the National Minister of Mines to take lasting regulatory measures in accordance with the requirements of the Mining Code.
Furthermore, the Sentinel questions the essence and legal basis of the allocation of a quota to ARECOMS, and calls for clarity of its attributions as well as the adoption of precise and transparent rules to regulate the management of the strategic quota.
